Emirates Unveils World’s First Electric Premium Economy Seat with Privacy Screen
September 07, 2026
Emirates is giving its Premium Economy cabin a serious upgrade, starting with the arrival of its new Airbus A350 fleet. The highlight of the new design is a first for the airline industry: an electrically powered seat fitted with a full-height, adjustable privacy screen so passengers can block out the aisle and neighbor whenever they want.
What’s New on Board
Electric Privacy & Controls: Passengers can raise or lower the divider at the press of a button, alongside built-in seat presets for lounging or eating.
Modern Tech: The seats introduce wireless charging pads, USB-C ports, a fold-down tray with a phone stand, and a 13.3-inch 4K touchscreen linked to new exterior cameras.
More Space to Stretch Out: Set up in a 2-3-2 layout (28 seats total), each 20-inch wide seat gives up to 39 inches of legroom, a recline mechanism that doesn't slide back into the person behind you, a leather footrest, and an adjustable neck pillow.
Upgraded Food & Drink: Meals are served on Royal Doulton china with proper cutlery, paired with premium drinks like Chandon Vintage Brut 2021. Routes to the UK will also feature Wiston Estate Brut NV, the airline's first featured English sparkling wine.
Eco-Friendly Amenity Kits: Passengers on long flights get reusable pouch bags made from plant-based leather, packed with essentials and Aveda skincare products.
It is a smart move for Emirates as competition for business and leisure travelers grows. By bringing privacy dividers and wireless charging down to Premium Economy, the airline is offering an experience that comes pretty close to traditional Business Class.
